Hard Work in the Hinterland - Victory on the Frontlines

Twenty representatives of local governments spent three days, from November 2 to November 4, participating in the workshop "Good Governance for Peace".

Currently, local community representatives face challenges that didn't exist before - military actions are making their adjustments. However, our trainers Oleg Kulinich and Yuriy Orel are undaunted by any challenges, so the three days were dedicated to establishing effective local government as a way for reducing the level of conflicts in communities.

At the beginning of the workshop, participants shared their expectations, talked about the communities they represent, and got acquainted with each other; the trainers, in turn, presented the program, conducted team-building exercises, and discussed the rules of joint learning.

The second training day was devoted to establishing communication processes and their significance in the social life of local communities. During the session, participants reached a consensus that quality communication increases residents' awareness and maintains their interest in the activities of local authorities, which can encourage local business representatives and active citizens to assist in community development.

An important part of the second day was a group discussion, during which participants exchanged their own experiences and thoughts on building effective communication between communities and mass media, socially responsible business, and civil society organizations.

The third day of the workshop was dedicated to innovative, modern, and creative solutions in what might seem like the routine work processes of local governments. In a "brainstorming" mode, participants identified programs, applications, and tools to be used in their communities in several areas: video communication and online training, activity planning, calendars, presentations, and visualizations.

Also, during this module, the most commonly used programs in the LGs activities were analyzed in detail, focusing on replacing those programs whose copyrights belong to the aggressor country, as well as the main aspects related to the implementation of modern Smart-City components in communities.

The event was held in the frames of the "Peace Building and Conflict Resolution in Ukraine – Step Forward" project, implemented with the support of the German Federal Foreign Office’s funds by IFA (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen), Funding programme zivik.
