Технології проведення розслідувань: у Дніпрі журналісти та активісти підвищували професійний рівень

On October 25-27 the training on investigative journalism was implemented in Dnipro. This is the second module of the first training course of "Investigative Journalism for Transparency" project, in which participants from different regions of Ukraine acquired practical skills and knowledge in carrying out investigations, and improved their professional level.

Trainers:

- Yulia Zaltsberh, the IFES Ukraine trainer on regulation of financing of electoral campaigns, expert on political finances and electoral processes with experience in promulgation and implementation of political finance reform in Ukraine;

- Oleksandr Kurbatov, an investigative journalist with 24 years of experience; cooperates with independent investigative projects "Slidstvo.Info" and "Our Money" produced by BIHUS.INFO.

An important part of the program was the visit, speech and greetings of the Vice-Consul of the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Dnipro Mr Peter Schmahl. During the conversation with participants, Mr. Schmahl provided answers to a number of questions related to the work of Ukrainian journalists, particularly:

- the actual level and ways to ensure freedom of speech in Ukraine;
- index of physical security of Ukrainian journalists and activists;
- professional, correct and balanced coverage of the "Steinmeier formula" by Ukrainian media and separation of forces in Donbass;
- the importance of journalistic investigations for the development of civil society in Ukraine;
- the importance of exchanging experiences between German and Ukrainian journalists.

During the training, the participants learned how to collect information, what role fieldwork preforms in the investigation, and learned how to verify the information collected.

Besides, the participants of the training course learned the following:

- Accountability for violation of political funding requirements: how and what to prosecute for?
- How to prepare and hold an interview?
- Communication for the record and off-record – how to use such information?
- Investigative storytelling: theory and practice.

On top of that, the guest of the training, a journalist from Dnipro, participant of the the training course on investigative journalism by RUNY in 2018, Andriy Tropin shared his own experience in investigations.

"Investigative Journalism for Transparency" project is implemented in a partnership with German organization "Media in Cooperation and Transition" using the German Federal Foreign Office resources.
