Chernihiv: psychologists received skills of providing psychosocial assistance in emergencies

Training for psychologists "Basic principles of providing psychosocial assistance in emergencies and crises" was implemented in Chernihiv on May 27-29. Trainers Iryna Tkach - clinical psychologist, trauma therapist, and Olena Sudakova - medical psychologist-psychotherapist, PhD in Psychology, helped participants to gain new knowledge and skills.

The purpose of the training was to provide participants with advanced knowledge and practical skills in psychological support, mental recovery and return to peaceful civilian life of those suffered, their further integration into communities. Among the tasks of the trainers was also helping participants to master the basic principles of providing psychosocial assistance in emergencies and crises and deepening and acquiring the new skills.

Participants of the training came to Chernihiv from all over Ukraine; they are practicing psychologists, employees of psychological centres, civic and humanitarian organizations working in the field of mental recovery of people affected by the armed conflict in the East. According to the trainers, the event was full of practical and educational segment, implemented by all participants, the dynamics in the group was positive, motivational, and active.

The trainers noted that the educational program was fully implemented. According to them, no negative effects were observed during the training.

"The fact of the high motivation and efforts of the majority of participants became the positive effect of the training, which in turn improved the dynamics and level of assimilation of the material," the trainers concluded.

The training was implemented within the “Crisis prevention and Peace building in Ukraine – Time to Act!” project, supported with German Federal Foreign Office’s funds by IFA (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen), Funding programme zivik.
