In the Capital of Ukraine psychologists studied the basics of providing psychosocial assistance in emergencies and crises

On November 13-15, the second module of the last training for psychologists on the basics of providing psychosocial assistance in emergencies and crises was implemented in Kyiv. The trainers – Olesia Druzhyna and Olena Sudakova.

Among the post-training expectations of the first part of the training course, a request was made to specify with which client which techniques should be used and to provide more insight into "Safe" technique. This request was taken into account and during the second part of the training it was further considered what impact each technique has on a person's well-being, and where it is appropriate to be used. The "Safe" technique was additionally explained and presented practically. Besides, participants noted that the information they received during the first part of the course changed their attitude to psychosocial support, and opened their minds significantly", the trainers said.

"While performing "Simulation" exercise, participants actively intertwined their personal experience of living through the crisis events. As a result of the exercise, all participants noted that professional experience alone is not enough to provide assistance to victims, if the PFA algorithm is unknown, therefore, an active request was formed for the perception of the theoretical part of the training", Olesia and Olena told.

The trainers added that most of the participants reported on the whole training as an important and relevant event.

"Among the positive details, participants noted the structure of the material, high quality and clarity of the training, systematization of knowledge and practical value of the training, the material availability. They also noted that both parts gave them more confidence in their own actions and increased their intention to use this material in their professional activities. They noted the relevance and importance of such trainings these days", the trainers summed up.

The training-course was implemented within the "Crisis prevention and Peace building in Ukraine – Time to Act!" project, supported with German Federal Foreign Office’s funds by IFA (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen), Funding programme zivik.
