There has been a lot of positive feedback about the panel on working with international registries, e.g. such as the Register of Companies of Cyprus.
Another important feature of the second part was the practical classes on stand-up recordings. More to that, participants had an opportunity to practice recording on camera, and even from a drone.
The first module of this course took place in August. This second autumn module traditionally considered the participants’ own investigations. During the sessions, articles were developed about the transportation of humanitarian aid from abroad to Ukraine – "How Volyn "philanthropists" make money on the second-hand" from Liudmyla Yavorska, and on the plant of wanted ex-Defence Minister Pavlo Lebediev, that still operate in Sumy - "The story of one plant in Sumy region" by Anastasia Komendantova.
There was many discussions on searching ideas and topics for investigations. In this context, the trainers stressed that "black PR packages" cannot be the basis of journalists’ activities, and their main work should be done with documents, registers and analysis of the current situation in the country, such as during the investigation on the fire in the children's camp "Viktoriia", when a journalist processed more than a thousand documents.
At the same time, it was noted that the most important feature of an investigative journalism should be curiosity. After all, only those who are really interested can detect and reveal corruption schemes. RUNY sincerely hopes that the knowledge gained will give participants an impetus to start working deeper in the field of investigations, and especially to develop these practices in their regions.
The training was organized within the "Investigative Journalism – the Arrowhead of Transparency" project in cooperation with a German organization "Europäische Medien Initiative e.V." using the German Federal Foreign Office resources.
