TRANSPARENT EDUCATION IN ACTION

The project Goal was to encourage anti-corruption and civically responsible behavior of students from universities of central regions of Ukraine through the awareness building activities as well as to promote tools for strengthening transparency at higher education.

In the frames of the project the following outcomes were achieved:

✔ A comprehensive study of such corruption factors as: cheating during exams, bribery, demanding a reward for enrollment in dormitories and forcible sale of textbooks by teachers for satisfactory marks during tests and exams is implemented
✔ The training program for students-researchers is developed, six teams for carrying out research in the leading universities of the central regions are formed
✔ The methodological guide "First Aid Kit for Higher Education: a Know-how guide for student researchers" is adapted for Ukrainian realities; based on it tools for in-depth interviews, focus groups and questionnaire surveys are developed
✔ 1,200 people were interviewed on the subject of corruption in higher education, their responds are collected in an analytical report
✔ The results of the research are presented to the public during a press conference with leading regional media and government officials, and discussed during roundtables with representatives of Universities.

The project managed to reduce the overall level of corruption and the number of corrupt practices in selected universities, and increased students’ awareness of transparency at higher education as well as promoted democratic values among youth.
