INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM FOR TRANSPARENCY

The project aims to provide a comprehensive educational campaign on standards and ethics in investigative journalism for Ukrainian media and civic activists with the emphasis on advanced techniques using the best European methodologies.

This is achieved through a series of educational activities, during which participants gain best practices and methods of investigative journalism, knowledge and skills to search and gather information, analyze documents and identify important facts. The will learn to create quality media content and understand legal basis for investigations, master the best practices of political finance analysis and learn to seek reliable information on the financing of electoral campaigns of candidates and parties.

Methodological background is based on the best European practices in this field and developed by the German-Ukrainian pool of trainers. Together with other educational programs that are currently being implemented for journalists in Ukraine this project will create a synergy for improvement of local media’s work and the quality of content they produce.

During the project implementation there will be 5 two-part training courses on investigative journalism for beginners and one training on investigation of political finances for experienced investigators. In total, educational activities will gather around 100 participants from 24 regions of Ukraine. Investigative media materials, prepared and published by participants of the trainings, will reach an audience of approximately 270 000 people.

As a result of the project, the capacity of Ukrainian media in conducting journalists’ investigations is built and the overall level of transparency within society is increased.

The project is implemented in a partnership with German organization "Media in Cooperation and Transition" using the German Federal Foreign Office resources.
