Information sovereignty of Ukraine

The intensive development of information and communication technologies and media in the modern world requires highly targeted trainings of individuals on the skillful and safe use of them.

Society increasingly relies on information and communication technologies, the interaction with which takes increasing proportion of free time. That causes considerable influence of media on all segments of the population. Media also powerfully affect the education of youth, often turning into a leading factor of socialization and spontaneous social learning, become the means of remote and source of informal education.

In these conditions, media literacy becomes a fundamental component in the prevention of human vulnerability to media manipulations, media violence and attempts to escape from reality; it is inextricably linked to the development of democracy in the information society.

Values and traditional objectives of media literacy are important to provide information security of Ukraine, they play strategic role in the patriotic education of youth and the formation of Ukrainian identity.

RUNY is working for the development of skills of perception of the information by young people, their ability to analyze media products, identify poor quality products, low-moral ideologies and pseudo-values, and other socially harmful information. The need for comprehensive development of media literacy also comes from the need to resist external aggression and destructive propaganda.
